SDMS Debate League
The San Diego Middle School Debate League is a collaboration between high schools around Northern San Diego County in an effort to make Speech and Debate, a highly regarded extracurricular, available to middle school students.

Our StoryWhen the Pacific Trails Speech and Debate Team was ready to present the argumentation and presentation skills they spent an entire season building, there weren't other middle school students they could compete against.
Their team's director, Luke Huang, created the San Diego Middle School Debate League in early 2018 as a solution to the problem they faced. By supporting the development of middle school teams across San Diego County, the league hopes to make debate as accessible to middle school students as it is to high school debaters. |
TournamentsIn April 2018, the directors of what is now the SDMS Debate League started a brand new tournament to allow middle school students in San Diego County to truly put their skills into practice.
Our tournaments, the San Diego Middle School and Novice Invitational Series, have inspired other high school debate teams to take similar actions and support the growth of middle school debate. For the 2019-2020 school year, our league hopes to offer more tournaments each season and bring together more middle school Speech and Debate teams. |
