Member Schools
Teams do NOT have to be in a member school to compete. Teams from member schools are not given any unfair advantage at our tournaments. These are simply schools with Official Student Representatives that regularly report to the Board of Directors. Schools that would like to become a member of our league should email us at [email protected] for more information.

Our Founders
Luke Huang, class of 2019Luke Huang was a Public Forum debater at Canyon Crest Academy in all four years of high school. He regularly competed on the national circuit and placed in SDIVSL League tournaments. He was the program director and main coach of Pacific Trails Middle School's Speech and Debate Team, one of San Diego's largest middle school Speech and Debate programs. In addition, he co-directed and wrote the curriculum for the 2018 CCA Speech and Debate Summer Camp.
He started the San Diego Middle School League and the very first San Diego Middle School and Novice Invitational to help his middle school students gain competition experience, as middle school Speech and Debate tournaments did not exist in San Diego County. Under his leadership, the San Diego Middle School Debate League has brought together middle school Speech and Debate students from all over the world. Today, SDMS Debate League's invitationals are some of San Diego's largest Speech and Debate events. |
Saikumar Gantla, class of 2019Sai debated Public Forum in SDIVSL in all four years of high school and participated in the Public Forum circuit for two years. He has multiple awards from placing with his partner repeatedly at local tournaments and has a lot of experience on the national circuit. He was one of the public forum captains at Canyon Crest Academy. He has taught at the CCA Speech and Debate Camp for three years.
As head coach for Public Forum at Pacific Trails Middle School, Sai saw how limited middle school Speech and Debate programs were due to a lack of tournaments younger students could attend. He worked with Luke to create the San Diego Middle School Debate League to bring more awareness to middle school debate by providing opportunities for middle school students to compete. |
